Abstract
Renewable energy has secured a vital place in global macro-level planning as an essential solution to address environmental crises and meet global energy demands. Among these resources, geothermal energy stands out as one of the most promising options due to its sustainability, accessibility, and absence of greenhouse gas emissions. Extracted from the natural heat within the Earth’s depths, this energy source not only provides a stable supply to meet energy needs but also, when integrated with multi-generation energy systems, can significantly enhance the efficiency and productivity of the global energy portfolio.
This book aims to comprehensively examine geothermal energy, from foundational concepts to cutting-edge applications, analyzing its potential for clean and sustainable energy production. Emphasizing a development-oriented approach, the authors propose strategies to integrate geothermal energy with modern technologies—such as hybrid systems and combined electricity, heating, and cooling production—to mitigate economic and technical challenges in its utilization. Additionally, given Iran’s geographical advantages and substantial geothermal reserves, the book specifically explores opportunities and requirements for localizing this technology within the country.
The work provides a practical analysis of geothermal energy’s technical dimensions (e.g., well exploration and extraction technologies), economic viability (cost-benefit assessments and investment incentives), and environmental impacts (carbon footprint reduction). A case study on a geothermal-powered multi-generation energy system is also presented to illustrate real-world applications. By bridging theory with actionable insights, the book seeks to advance the adoption of geothermal energy as a cornerstone of sustainable energy strategies.
